Albert T. Washburne, Sr.
Albert T. Washburne, Sr. was born in Detroit in 1866. His parents were John and Abigail (Kiersted) Washburne. As a child, Albert accompanied his parents when they traveled to Northport, and he attended school there until he was fifteen. He spent two years in his father's shipbuilding business and three more as a clerk. He then opened a dry goods store in Charlevoix, which he operated for ten years.
Around 1896 he moved to Petoskey and was the general manager of the J.H. Levinson Company. He was in charge of advertising, dry goods, millinery, and carpets. He purchased the Petoskey Rug Manufacturing and Carpet Company.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Presbyterian Church.
He married Jennie Matthews and they had a daughter who graduated from the Ursuline Convent in Ontario.
He married Dana Crosby in 1894. They had two children, Crosby and Albert.
He died in October 1918.
