The Burns Clinic was founded in 1931 by Dr. Dean Burns. When he was an intern in Chicago, he was invited to join the Mayo Clinic, but instead returned to Petoskey with a goal of attracting medical specialists to the area. The clinic was closely associated with Little Traverse Hospital.
