Ella Petoskey
Ella was the granddaughter of Chief Ignatius Petoskey. She graduated from the Carlisle Indian School and earned her teaching certificate at Benton Harbor Normal College. Ella taught on Indian Reservations in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Nevada. Known as “Princess Ella,” she played the part of Minnehaha in the Hiawatha pageant staged north of Petoskey for several summers. She was known for her beautiful singing voice and her storytelling.
