George W. Childs
George W. Childs was the manager of the Bay View Hotel. He was born in New York on September 29, 1866. His parents were George W. and Sarah B. (Frisbee) Childs. He was the youngest of five children. The family came to Michigan in 1868, first to Montcalm County and then, in 1882, to Boyne City. His father took over management of the Bay View Hotel and also was a sheriff and county clerk.
George Jr. married Luella Sherman on August 26, 1890. They had two children, Ruth and George D. They moved to Detroit and worked for Preston National Bank and the Penberthy Injector Company. When his father died in 1907, he returned to the area and took over management of the hotel.
