The first train to enter Petoskey arrived on the Grand Rapids and Indiana railroad tracks on December 31, 1873. The GR&I had to fulfill its contract or forfeit the land they were granted by the government. The depot pictured below was built in 1899. The stairs on the right of the picture are for the pedestrian walkway that went over the tracks. In the top left corner of the picture you can see a peek of the Arlington Hotel.
