Leon Chichester
Leon Chichester was born in Otsego, Michigan on January 15, 1891. His parents were Ira and Ann Mary (Ives) Chichester. Ira was a surveyor, contractor, and builder. Late in his life he became the president of the First State Bank of Petoskey.
Leon attended Allegan Public Schools and when he was 16, was employed at the First National Bank of Allegan. At age 19, He was the youngest man in the state to hold the position of cashier.
In 1891 Leon moved to Petoskey and organized the First State Bank with George Robinson with a capital of $50,000. He was vice-president while his father was president, taking over that position on his father's death in 1903.
In 1900 he married Jeanne Caskey of Allegan.
He was president of the Michigan Bankers Association. He served one term on the city council and was a member of the City Charter Revisory Commission. He invited Frances Pailthorp to dinner at the Cushman Hotel to meet Mr. Armstrong of the Hiawatha Pageant and she became involved in the art workshop there.
