Lou S. Darling
Lou Steele Darling was born in Tioga County, New York on February 12, 1862. His parents were Selim and Theodocia (Gale) Darling. They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1873 and then to Petoskey in 1878.
Lou attended school in New York and Flint. He was a carpenter's apprentice and took a class in architectural design. He worked in his father's contracting business from 1878 to 1894. He then established a business with Charles C. Beahan, selling seeds, agricultural implements, and carriages at 416 Howard Street.
He married Cora Bacon on September 23, They had three children, Theodocia Anna, Selim Bacon, and Ada Louise.
He served one term representing the first ward on the board of aldermen. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Maccabees. He and his wife attended the Presbyterian Church.
