Masonic Temple |
407 East Lake Street |
The building was contructed in 1883.
The lower floors of this building were used by the Petoskey Cigar Company, owned by George S. Williams, in 1895. He had a partner named E.E. Frye. Their special cigar brands were the "Little Four" the "GOM," the "G&W," and the "Big Four." They also sold tobacco and smoker's sundries. Mr. Williams also manufactured soft drinks here and Williams Famous Ice Cream, but not at this location. Another tenant was Fred Walkenstein's Tailor Shop. In 1903, it was the home of City Bottling Works and C. Faulkner was the proprietor. The ad in the Polk Directory says, "Bottles of Carbonated Beverages, Syphons, Fountains, Cider, and Mineral Waters."
The upper floors are used by the Masonic Lodge.
