Hemingway's Michigan Story

Growing up, Ernest Hemingway spent his summers at the family cottage on Walloon Lake, a few miles south of Petoskey.  After serving as an ambulance driver in World War I, he returned to Petoskey in the winter of 1919-1920.  Several of the Nick Adams stories take place in nearby Horton's Bay, and the satirical The Torrents of Spring is set in downtown Petoskey.
